Experimentation
When we reduce our focus from the whole-body movement to the small, separated element, from complex to simple, we approach a method of practical, bodily investigation.
A method, where a separated chosen body action is intentionally analysed, dismantled, manipulated or changed. Where one or more movement possibilities are tested out or consciously altered.
It is a form of movement Exploration and conscious Experimentation, that is focused on a particular matter.
How to sink to the floor for example.
One can take an already existing movement pattern out of a combination or choreography or invent one.
This established example serves now to examen and explore it.
First, what exists in relation to the movement factors.
-Which body part initiates the movement
-Which body part connects first with the floor
-The movement is controlled or more free almost falling
-Body weight is denied or given in
-What is the direction of the movement
etc.
With this concrete information one can start to explore the movement execution,
One can start to alter certain factors as time, fast or slower.
To start with another body part or alter the flow of the movement.
One experiments over a given limited instruction and observes consciously the results.
It is a creative process, which transports the movement element out of its involved context either technically, dynamically, rhythmically, coordinative or emotional etc.
Focusing on a particular part of the movement, a Transition, Turn, Jump, Body shape, Body line, the executed spatial pathway, and so on
gives place for awareness. Develops movement security because of the elaborated information.
Exploring the movement execution and possibilities of a given element within a clear and concrete limitation develops consciousness over the movement efforts, enhances movement creativity, gives freedom and develops confidence.
